KNUCKLES #6

Hey it’s been too long, personal website. Updates coming soon (today?) but first I wanted to share something.

A lot of people think my first work in print was my CHEESUS comics but they are wrong! Behold, my first published work:

I loved the Sonic comics (Knuckles being the coolest because he had spike fists brah!) that Archie published and I still think they hold up. These were easy to get because all of the local corner stores would have copies on their racks. I remember buying this one still: One day in 1997, I was with my mom and sister and we had just rented a VHS from the VIDEO STORE (looong time ago duh) and we made a stop for some reason that allowed me to get this comic – KNUCKLES #6. On the drive home I was flipping through it (would always look at the art, but I couldn’t read them til I got home or I’d feel queazy) and holy shit in the corner of my eye I had discovered I was fucking published in a comic book. I felt like the coolest 12 year old (and they spelled my last name right, bravo comics).

Even at that time I didn’t remember drawing it (I drew a LOT of Sonic) or sending it in and I didn’t color it – I always worked in black and white. So there you go – totally the worst pinup on the page but fuck it where are those guys now?

And of course I’m extremely happy that my hometown was printed too because Cornwall, Connecticut means fucking everything to me.

Buy one now while they’re cheap! http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=knuckles+6+comic&_sacat=0&_odkw=knuckles+6&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

Bullshit 28

Uhh oops, last week got busy (finally have a driver’s license again!) so I didn’t get to post the rest of those Jennifer Chip panels here (I tweeted them though), but the final strip is up now: http://www.jenniferchip.com/2011/07/24/25/. I just finished the final production on the next one, I can’t wait for everyone to see it.

ANYWAY, I was going through my archives today and found a project I created waaay back in the 8th grade (1998-1999). It was to be my “masterpiece” – a comic to trump Watchmen, which is hilarious because I hadn’t even read that comic yet, I was only aware of it and it’s impact. I have a file of stuff for this story and there’s an insane amount of prep work inside of it (like a 3 page hand written outline with notes plus sketches and so much more). I knew then that it was a lot to take on, so I think I was waiting until I was older to churn it out. Someday still?

I love the character designs, and even with today’s sketch I kept the everything the same (only filling in colors I didn’t have a guide for). This girl (whom I won’t name because if/when this story ever comes out I want you to be surprised) was someone I used to doodle constantly, even when I wasn’t drawing or into comics anymore (the dark age). I think it was those awesome eyelashes that kept that fire burning inside of me.

So here is a new pin up. I should draw this whole thing one day. Maybe next year? Check out these tweets here, here, here and here to see some of the old stuff that was in the file.

American Filth – a 64 page odyssey.

“Blissed” from American Filth

Donating will get you the American Filth companion, with comics not included in this set as well as strips from my ‘tween’ years and new one to boot. I’ll be home next week to scan it, once it is up you will receive an email with the link as a thank you because seriously: thank you.
